English for Speakers of Other Languages
RCP’s English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program gives students the skills and confidence to speak English. These skills can lead to job opportunities and promotions and can be useful in helping children with homework and communicating with schools, neighbors, doctors, store clerks, and so much more.
RCP offers beginning through advanced ESOL. Our beginner’s class is for students with no or very little English. From there, students can move through the levels to become fluent. All incoming students take a placement exam and are periodically tested to ensure they are at the correct level. Students benefit from personal attention and thrive within our interactive classes. Our teachers are experienced, patient, and encouraging. In addition, students will also benefit from:
Computer training: Internet skills, Google Workspace and Google Classroom, email, and varied social media. Students utilize Northstar Digital Literacy to test and enhance their skills.
Educational and career advising—individual advising, classroom presentations, practice completing job applications and interviewing, connection to education and training programs
Class speakers
Student support—practice calling children’s teachers, doctors’ offices, and businesses; community referrals
We are proud to use Burlington English within all levels of ESOL! Burlington English offers a standards-based, blended curriculum developed especially for adult ESL students. Burlington Core integrates essential life skills, digital literacy, EL Civics, and workforce readiness while focusing on speaking, listening, reading, writing, and grammar. Burlington English’s SpeechTrainer® helps users perfect their pronunciation and listening skills. Its focus on pronunciation training means students get the kind of practical, real-life training that results in true English proficiency, which is vital for all those seeking pathways to advance their careers. Students can access the program while at school or outside of school on a smart device!
