What is the HiSET Exam?

The HiSET Exam is an alternative way for adults to earn an official government document equivalent to a high school diploma. By taking the HiSET®, you can earn a state-issued high school equivalency credential, allowing you to advance your career, join the military, begin a training program, or continue your education. The HiSET Exam is made up of five (5) tests - language arts (reading), language arts (writing), mathematics, science, and social studies. Information about each test can be found here.

MA Residents can take the HiSET® Exams for FREE!

When scheduling your HiSET® test at an official test center or at home, enter the promo code for the test you will be taking during checkout.

Promo codes for free HiSET testing are now subject-specific. Use the following codes when registering for exams:  

  • Language Arts – Reading: MAHISETREADING 

  • Language Arts – Writing: MAHISETWRITING 

  • Social Studies: MAHISETSOCIALSTUDIES 

  • Science: MAHISETSCIENCE 

  • Mathematics: MAHISETMATH 

*The Commonwealth of Massachusetts will pay for a candidate's first HiSET® test in each subject plus two retakes per subject. More information can be found here. These three free attempts are per lifetime and do not reset in the next calendar year.

All interested candidates may now schedule any or all parts of the HSE exam at our location.

Testing takes place in the RHS library. Exam days are Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5:30 pm to 8 pm.
